Hypothyroidism and Thyroid Kits

A study known as the Colorado Thyroid Disease Prevalence Study revealed that more than 10 million Americans have been diagnosed with thyroid disease, and that another 13 million people are estimated to have undiagnosed thyroid problems in the United States alone. This is not a number that should be taken for granted. Something must be done as soon as possible.

What must be the best way to keep you out of this medical condition? There is no exact answer to the question considering that it covers a very wide scope in the field of medicine. How will you be able to know that you are under it? There are symptoms that show and indicate that a person is currently suffering from the claws of thyroid related diseases such as hypothyroidism.

Complicated things begins simple, the coverage of the issue of hypothyroidism begins with one simple word which is thyroid? It is the small bowtie or butterfly-shaped gland located in your neck, wrapped around the windpipe, and is located below the Adam’s apple area.

What causes thyroid disease? Exposure to radiation, overconsumption of isoflavone–intensive soy products such as soy protein, soy capsules, some drugs such as lithium and heart drug cordarone and overconsumption or shortage of iodine in the diet, are just some of the factors which triggers and causes hypothyroidism.

Who have higher risks or possibilities to have thyroid disease? Do you have a family member with a thyroid problem? Do you have any pituitary or endocrine disease? Are you or any in the family having another autoimmune disease? Are you diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia? Are you over 60 years old? Are you a smoker? Are you fond of eating too much soy foods? Are you exposed to certain chemicals such as perchlorate and fluoride? If you are, then you have a higher possibility to have hypothyroidism.

If you suspecting to have the disease, there are two things that you can do, act or be idle. You can see a doctor who knows the scope of the disease and you can also conduct your own thyroid test at home using thyroid kits, provided that FDA has issued a necessary approval and permit.

Thyroid kits are used to diagnose both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, the kit is composed of tools and for conducting personal test to be based on the presence of T3, T4 and TSH levels in the blood. The normal TSH levels in the blood range between 0.5-5.5 mIU/ml. if the TSH levels are over 5.5 patients should be considered as a case of hypothyroidism. If the levels are below 0.5, it is considered as a case of hyperthyroidism.
